We (the human part of our family) had a beautiful snow day yesterday… but our dog, Ziggy, had a GREAT! FUN! EXCITING! snow day.
He loves and seems to be fascinated by snow. Normally, he goes outside and wants to come right back in, but when it snows… good luck getting him back inside for a while. In the photo below he’s been outside for about 10 minutes and is ignoring me as I’m calling to him.
He patrols the yard, which is a whole new territory when it’s covered in snow. I’m thinking he has to be freezing, but he seems to be just fine.
Aha! He finally looks up! I’m sure he’s thinking, “Why doesn’t she just leave me alone?” Normally I’m trying to get him to go outside in the warm sunshine, now I’m bugging him to come back in. Undoubtedly, he wants me to make up my mind at this point.
Finally, the woolly mammoth (doesn’t he truly look like one?) starts heading back in. Good boy!
“Awww, gee Mom, I was just having a good time.”
I’m happy now. My Ziggers is warm. And, yes, he went outside several more times during the day to play in the snow, but never long enough to get too cold. After all, he IS a California dog. 😉
I leave you now with Ziggy (aka dog) tracks in the snow.
What a way to start the new year! Four inches of snow fell on our city last night and this morning… and it was beautiful. These photos are proof of our winter wonderland:
2 a.m. – Who could sleep with this just outside the door?
The next 4 were taken from 6-7 a.m.
Italian cypress trees:
cars (yep, the cars are under there):
It was almost completely gone by 5 p.m., but it was great while it lasted. We don’t get snow very often, but when we do WE LOVE IT!

Ahhh, nothing like some snow to start the year off right. An hour before these photos were taken it was raining. Since it was getting dark from the storm, I had closed the curtains in the guest room (my sanctuary) while I watched NCIS. When the show was over, I walked out into the living room where the curtains were still open and saw huge snowflakes coming down. Yay!! SNOW!!!
Mr WS and I took photos and Flip videos and came back inside to watch the snow from inside our warm house.
This is our turtle pond… Seymour will be hibernating tonight for sure.
Life is good.
p.s. For those of you who get massive amounts of snow, don’t scoff at our little snowstorm. We may not get much, but we sure do enjoy what we get. 🙂
It’s snowing today, 12/17/08, and I’m loving it! We haven’t had a good snow in YEARS and I was beginning to think we’d never get another one.
As of right now we’ve gotten over 5″ and it’s still going pretty good. Not as much as earlier, nor are the flakes as large, but it’s still wonderful. This photo is of our beautiful back yard. It’s a gorgeous sight with all the snow. I just wish it would stick around til Christmas… how wonderful that would be! I haven’t had a white Christmas since I was 11 years old and we lived in Connecticut. Out there we had snow drifts as high as our house and it was so much fun. Nowadays, though, I’ll take 5″ and maybe a bit more and keep the sunny weather the rest of the year.
I think I’m spoiled. 🙂
